After many sub releases of Mautic 2 for a quite a time, Mautic 3 will be the next major release which we can expect to be released by March 2020 . Mautic being an open source email marketing automation tool has provided users with a lot of flexibility and customization's to the campaign while being free of cost, and with this release we might expect some performance enhancements and updates. With this said, let's see what the fuss is about.

According to the Mautic release announcement article made by Ruth Cheesly Mautics community manager we can expect some changes in the internal code structure of the Mautic, with framework update and core version updates as stated:

Changes in code structure

• PHP version will be updated from 5.6.19 to 7.2.21
• Minimum MySQL version will be updated from 5.5.3 to 5.7.
• Frameworks such as Symphony and Jquery and certain dependencies has been upgraded

As per the article these changes will allow them to incorporate new features. It has also stated that, even with these changes to the code base not much has been changed in the user interface, for people using Mautic for a long time things are largely going to be the same.

Message for plugin developers

The article states that "breaking changes" has been done in the code structure due to changes in symphony framework, it is recommended that the plugin developers should update their plugins code in order to get it working with Mautic 3.

Here are the listed key changes that Administrators can use while testing and migrating to Mautic 3:

• {leadfield=…} tokens were replaced with {contactfield=…} tokens in your email template.
• The minimum required PHP version will be 7.2.21
• The minimum required MySQL version will be 5.7
• Console was moved to a different directory.
• Update all your cron jobs
• Replace app/console with bin/console
• There is a new file manager. For WYSIWYG editor you can try to add an image to check.
• The Rackspace and OpenStack plugins for remote assets were removed due to outdated library from Rackspace.
